Joe Dan “JD” Morrison, 72, of Rockdale died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2020, at Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Brother Mitchell will be officiating and burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale.

Visitation is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at the funeral home.

Mr. Morrison was born Dec. 17, 1947, to A.D. and Olevia Mack Morrison in Caldwell.

He was a Class of 1966 graduate of Blackshear High School in Odessa.

After high school, Mr. Morrison served in the U.S. Army for two years, including a tour in Vietnam.

When he returned home, he worked in the oil fields and in construction. He also did occasional domestic repairs and minor renovations, as he was a “Joe”-of-all trades.

On March 11, 1985, he married Peggy Jean Bonney in Cameron.

What he loved most was spending time with his family and friends, gardening, and making people laugh.

Mr. Morrison was preceded in death by his parents, A.D. and Olevia Morrison; two sisters, Ardelia Hunt and Esponala Swanson; and a brother, Edward Morrison.

Survivors are his loving wife of 35 years, Peggy Morrison of Rockdale; four daughters Judy (Ray) Johnson and husband Samuel Johnson Jr. of Odessa, Sabrina Cleaver and husband Mike Stewart of California, Angela Ray of Alaska, Samanthia (Bonney) Harrison and husband Donald of Humble; a son, Adrian D. Morrison and special friend Cherondra Grogans of Rockdale; and three sisters Elmarie Heslip of Caldwell, Eulia Smith of Odessa, Frankie Cox of Houston; also, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers are James Bonney, Earl Bonney, Norvell Ewing, Michael Wayne Thompson, Charles Miles and Roshaid Winters.

Honorary pallbearers are his son, sons-in-law, grandsons, nephews and brothers-in-law.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his nurse, Tiffani Scott, for all the care she gave to Joe and the family.
