John Wayne Morton, 75, of Thorndale passed away peacefully at his home on the morning of June 28, 2021.

He was born May 21, 1946, in the Blackjack community south of Rockdale to James Franklin Morton and Alpha Omega Rogers Morton.

He was a 1965 graduate of Rockdale High School.

Mr. Morton served in the Army National Guard.

He worked as a millwright for Alcoa at the Rockdale Sandow plant.

He married Paulette Kelm of Thorndale in 1967. John and Paulette had two sons, John Wesley and Paul Brian.

He and Paulette owned and operated Morton Feed & Fertilizer and Central Texas Properties, closing the real estate brokerage after the death of Paulette in 1995, and closing the fertilizer business upon his retirement.

Mr. Morton was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed fishing the coastal waters of Texas.

John was preceded in death by his parents, James F. and Alpha O., and his wife, Paulette.

He is survived by his two sons, John Wesley Morton and wife Jessica, Paul Brian Morton and wife Dawn; his sister, Alpha Ann Morris and husband Billy Jack; his brothers, James Harmon “Buddy” Morton and wife Barbara, Gerald Eugene Morton and wife Susan.

He also leaves behind three grandsons, two granddaughters, three great-granddaughters, a great-grandson with a second great-grandson due in August, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

At his request there will be no visitation or memorial services.

The family asks that donations, in lieu of flowers, be made to the Thorndale Cares charity.
