Manuel was born in Houston on June 22, 1935, to Elwin and Ruby (Thomas) Doud. Weighing only 3 pounds, he was considered a miracle baby. He spent a month in the hospital and then went home where, due to his tiny size, he slept in a shoebox in a dresser drawer.

On April 11, 1950, he married Elizabeth Inglis and together they had five children: Kirk, Bernie, Robbie, Norma and Dawn. They spent 40 years together until her death on April 19, 1990.

As a first class machinist, he worked for Bernard Knuth Machine Shop from 1952 till 1966, and then for Alcoa from 1966 till 1998.

In 1991, he met Patricia Golden and the two were married on May 2, 1992, in Rockdale. He then welcomed Pat’s two children, Rhonda and Scott, to the family.

Soon after they were married, they became members of SASS, Single Action Shooters Society. They both enjoyed 1800s costume and timed shooting competitions, where they and Norma won multiple awards.

He was a devout and practicing Catholic. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting and gambling. What he loved the most was his family. His extended family, whether it was through blood or marriage, was as important as his immediate family. He always said “I learned to be a father from the show ‘Father Knows Best’.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elwin and Ruby Doud; his first wife, Elizabeth Doud; a daughter, Norma Doud; two brothers, Eddie Doud, and Doug Cherry; two sisters, Johnnie Doud and Gloria Jean Lewis; and a lifelong friend, Paul Bodiford.

Manuel is survived by his wife of 31 years, Patricia Doud of Rockdale; his children, Kirk Doud and wife Diane of Arkansas, Bernie Doud and wife Debo of Rockdale, Robbie Doud and husband Ray Archer of Rockdale, Dawn Byrd and husband Floyd of Rockdale, Scott Heffernan of Houston and Rhonda Biles and husband Greg of Breckenridge, Colorado; a sister, Carolyn Jones of Taylor; a brother, Ronnie Doud of Spring; a brother-in-law, Tray Golden and wife Dolores of New Waverly; a sister-inlaw, Judy Muzyczyn and husband Mike of Corpus Christi; also, 14 grandchildren, 19 great- grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous extended family and friends.
