Nelma “Maw” Blake

Services for Nelma “Maw” Blake, 88, of Milano will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial will follow at Milano Cemetery.

Visitation is set for 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Blake died Saturday, Nov. 30, at her home in Milano.

She was born April 27, 1931, near Milano in Milam County to Charlie Ray and Blanche Gertrude (Newman) Morgan.

Mrs. Blake was a lifelong Milano resident, attended school in Milano and later became a dietitian for the Milano I.S.D. for 28 years, retiring in 2001.

She married L.B. Blake Sr. on April 22, 1947, in Milano.

Mrs. Blake was a member of Milano Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed helping put together their garage sale twice a year. She was a member of Rockdale VFW Ladies Auxiliary and had been a member since 1995.

She enjoyed playing 42 and she attended Milam County Cowboy Church.

Mrs. Blake was preceded in death by her husband, L.B. Blake Sr.; two daughters, Louise Blakely and Debra Hartley; two sons-in-law, Dean Garrison and Sonny Blakely; a great-grandchild, Mardies Blakely; and a great-great-grandchild, Wyatt Phillips.

Survivors are a son, L.B. “Shorty” Blake and wife Deana of Milano; a daughter, Gloria Garrison of Harker Heights; and a brother, Charlie Frank Morgan and wife Joan of Rockdale; also, 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.
