SPRINGFIELD, MO— Patsy Ruth (Hawley) Oeser, formerly of Rockdale, died Thursday, May 21, 2020, in Springfield, Missouri.

She was born Oct. 9, 1933, in Glendale, California, to Clifton L. J. Hawley and Mildred Imo Doggett.

Mrs. Oeser was raised on the Hearst Ranch at San Simeon, California, where her father was a foreman and her stepmother, Bertha Hawley, was an employee at Hearst Castle.

She graduated from Cambria High School in Cambria, California, and Woodbury College in Los Angeles with a secretarial degree

Mrs. Oeser went to work at Camp San Luis Obispo, California, where she met 1LT Richard Walter Oeser.

They married on May 10, 1953, in Cambria, California.

She was an Army wife and the couple moved to numerous duty stations in the continental United States and overseas during their service.

The Oesers moved to California after retiring from the military.

They had five children, Jeffery Richard, Curtis Clifton, Susan Jane, Karen Louise and Kenneth Allen.

Mrs. Oeser loved spending time with family and friends and she enjoyed traveling.

After their children were grown and left home, they moved to Shell Knob, Missouri.

Over a 20-year period, the Oesers sponsored numerous foreign exchange students from around the world.

When Richard passed away, she worked several years as a reporter/salesperson for the Shell Knob Rattler. After retiring from the Rattler, she lived in Rockdale, for several years and returned to Springfield two years ago.

Mrs. Oeser was preceded in death by her father and mother, her stepmother, brothers Boyd and wife Nelda Hawley, Robert and wife Barbara Hawley.

Survivors are three sons, Jeffery and wife Julie Oeser, Curtis and wife Laureen Oeser, and Kenny Oeser; and two daughters, Susan and husband Art Free, Karen and husband John Will; also, 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
