Oney

Billie Oney, 85, of Rockdale died Friday, Sept. 17, 2021, at Rockdale Estates & Rehabilitation.

Billie was born and raised in Washington, D.C., to Berkley and Edytha (Bennett) Inge.

In 1954, Billie married her high school sweetheart, Floyd J. “Buddy” Oney. While Buddy was in the Navy they lived in San Diego and Alamenda, California. They lived in Pasadena, Texas, prior to moving to Rockdale in 1974. Together they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in December 2004.

Born to this union were two daughters, Vickie New and Janet Svrcek.

Billie was mostly a homemaker and mom, which she considered the most important job in the world. However, once the girls started school, she worked in their elementary school cafeteria and also in the gift-wrapping department at Foley’s.

She loved being around people. Billie appreciated the simple things of life and God’s handiwork all around—a sunset, thunderstorms, babies, laughter of children, squirrels feeding, watching birds, and she loved “most” music. She also loved to travel, visiting every state but one, and numerous countries.

She had a zest for life and a love for people. Her son-in-law, Joel, told her that she didn’t just live life, she celebrated life. She could be a bit bossy, opinionated and outspoken at times, but she had a good and generous heart.

Billie was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. She volunteered at the food pantry, junior high school library, and her church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy in 2005; her parents, a sister, a brother, two sisters-in-law, and a very special son-in-law, Joel New in 2012.

She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Vickie New and friend Bud Houston, Janet and David Svrcek; four grandsons, Jason New and wife Julee of Parker, Jeremy New and husband Dustin Dillard of Dallas, David “Scooter” Svrcek and wife Rachel of Georgetown, and Dustin Svrcek and wife Stephanie of Tomball; seven great-grandchildren, Natalie New, Evan New, Aiden, Noah and Hayes Svrcek, Finnley and Emry Svrcek; her brother, Berkley Inge of Pasadena, Texas; and a special brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Linda Oney; numerous nieces and nephews and her special caregivers, Tammy and Elena.

Funeral service will be held at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021, with Kindred Hospice Chaplain Bruce Mercer and Dr. Gregory Nichols officiating. Internment will follow at IOOF Cemetery in Rockdale. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at the funeral home.
