Phillips

Yolanda Ruenell Phillips was born on July 31, 1965, in Rockdale to the late Leroy Phillips and Doris Robertson Phillips.

She was baptized at an early age at New Hope Baptist Church.

She attended schools in Rockdale, graduating in 1983. Upon graduation she enrolled in Temple Junior College in Temple. She also attended Sebring Cosmetology School in Bryan, obtaining her cosmetology license in 1986.

She worked numerous beauty salons in Bryan and Temple as a master stylist for over 30 years. Her favorite stylist job was at the Texas A&M Student Center, cutting the hair of the Aggie Cadets.

If you mentioned fashion, you just dialed her number. Yolanda loved clothes, shoes, purses, jewelry and make-up. She had a sassy and charismatic personality that would just draw people to her. She loved taking pictures, posing in different hair styles and designs. She was very talented in her craft.

In her line of work there were no strangers. When you sat in her chair you had to get ready for an ear full of whatever was going on with her. She loved her clients—her favorite one being her dad.

Yolanda was an avid sports fan cheering for the Dallas Cowboys (sometimes) and the Texas Longhorns. She could tell you what player went to what college and what professional team they currently played for. She had a lively spirit that will be missed.

After a lengthy illness, Yolanda passed away peacefully Thanksgiving morning with her mom and two sisters by her side.

She was preceded in death by her father, Leroy Phillips on March 16, 2017, and grandparents Earnest L. Phillips, Ruenell Phillips, Clarence Brown and Alline Brown.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her mother, Doris Phillips of Rockdale; her sisters, Angela Phillips of Rockdale and LaShun Phillips of Little River-Academy; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Pastor Charles Embra officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at the funeral home in Rockdale.
