Minna Belle “Coots” Hawkins Rhodes, 93, of Lexington died Monday, Dec. 10, 2018, in Cameron.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Reagan Seaton of Lexington United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Hugh Wilson Cemetery in Tanglewood.

Visitation will precede the service from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Rhodes was born Sept. 27, 1925, in Waverly to Janie Lou Elmo (Walker) and Clarence Roger Hawkins Sr. Her family moved from Waverly to Houston and she graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School.

She married Dewey Rhodes of Lexington on Aug. 14, 1943, in Houston.

Mrs. Rhodes was a member of United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, PTA, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Tanglewood Volunteer Fire Department. She also served as an election judge for many years in both Harris and Lee Counties.

Mrs. Rhodes enjoyed bowling, dancing, traveling and her grandchildren.

After Dewey’s death, she married Fred Rhodes Sr. on March 23, 1988. They were married 30 years before his death. Their blended family included six children, 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Rhodes was preceded in death by her parents, Elmo and Clarence Hawkins Sr.; her first husband, Dewey Rhodes; her second husband, Fred Rhodes Sr.; two daughters, Judy Ann and Margo Maddux; two brothers, Clarence Rogers “Sunny” Hawkins Jr. and Robert Elmo “Peanut” Hawkins; and a sister, Myrl Maxine Hawkins Rhodes.

Survivors are two daughters, Terrie and husband Chester Smith of Lexington, Sallie and husband Bill Spivey of Lexington; a son-in-law, Curt Maddux of Georgetown; six grandchildren, Cary Smith and wife Dawn of Athens, Tennessee, Kim Barrett and husband Matt of Bend, Oregon, Robyn Poston and husband Troy of Coppell, Jason Smith and wife Julie of Annandale, Virginia, Brian Jay Maddux and wife Sharon of Fresno, California, Sarah Bower and husband Matt of Denver, Colorado, Tripp Spivey and fiancée Ashley Schatte of LaGrange; two stepdaughters, Vicki Hodges and husband David of Lexington, Miki Elliott and husband Hal of Lexington; and a stepson, Fred L. Rhodes Jr. and wife Tonya of Lexington; also, nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.

Pallbearers will be Cary Smith, Jason Smith, Troy Poston, Jay Maddux, Tripp Spivey, Matt Bower, Zander Smith and Walker Smith.

Honorary pallbearers are Austin Poston, Dylan Poston, Matt Barrett, Mike Hawkins and Kirby Hawkins.
