Joyce (Tuma) Key Skinner passed away peacefully on Feb. 28, 2021, at her home in College Station, surrounded by her loving family. A graveside

A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 5, at 3:30 p.m. at a local cemetery to be deter mined.

A visitation will be held at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home on Thursday, March 4, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

She attended and was a graduate of Rockdale High School, where she was very active in sports (basketball and tennis), as well as being twirler and then drum major. Through her high school years, Joyce was also voted best looking, band sweetheart, football sweetheart, FFA sweetheart and best all-around girl.

After high school, Joyce married Doug Key, and first became a homemaker and mother to four children.

For many years Joyce established and owned a Montgomery Wards catalog store in Rockdale. She was such a success at Wards, she won many awards, including a national sales contest with the prize of a 1968 Camaro.

Utilizing her flare for sales and genuine love of people, after many years with Wards, Joyce went into retail sales for Foley’s, where she was a star employee, winning even more awards on a local as well as national level. Joyce loved the Lord. She

Joyce loved the Lord. She was a member of Murray Church of Christ in Rockdale, as well as A&M Church of Christ in College Station.

Joyce was with her husband Wayne Skinner for over 40 years, until his death in 2001. Wayne was a wonderful husband, stepfather and grandfather, and for this she was very grateful.

Despite having to live through the devastating loss of two sons, a grandson and her husband, she kept the faith. She remained thankful for all the blessings and memories. She even posted little notes throughout the house with the saying “Remember, there is always, always something to be thankful for.”

Joyce adored her family, immediate and extended and always looked forward to the annual gatherings and girls beach trips. She loved to talk about the fun. She also became quite the traveler for a while and had special memories with her very good friends. The memories of these adventures brought her great joy.

Joyce also thoroughly enjoyed her garden club in Rockdale and those special friends.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Skinner; a son, Bradley Key; a son, Bret Key; and a grandson, Trenton Key; as well as her parents.

She is survived by a son, Colt Key of Rockdale; a daughter, Cambi Bruegger of Conroe; also, grandchildren Travis Key, Spencer Bruegger, Sierra Key, Bradley Bruegger, Shelby Key and Noah Bruegger; brothers Jim (Madie) Tuma of Gonzales, and Gary (Patti) Tuma of Sugar Land; and a sister, Wilma (Pud) Owens of Rockdale.
