Funeral services for Weldon Eugene Smith, 74, of Rockdale are set for 10 a.m. Thurs day, June 4, 2020, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Minister Ray Don McIntosh of Salado Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Taylor City Cemetery in Taylor.

Visitation will be from 12-noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith died Friday, May 29, at his daughter’s home in Taylor.

He was born Aug. 26, 1945, in Boyle, Mississippi, to J.J. and Ola Mae (Crocker) Smith.

He was a graduate of Reagan High School in Houston and a member of Albert J. DeLange Masonic Lodge No. 1403 AF&AM in Houston.

On Nov. 22, 1963, he married Maurita Gafford in Houston.

While living in Rockdale, he was a member of Murray Street Church of Christ and a member of vice president of VOICES. For 38 years he served as vice president of Crocker Reclamation.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, J.J. and Ola Mae Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Maurita Smith of Taylor; two daughters, Lynita and Mark Conaway of Temple, Regina and Darin Schneider of Taylor; a son, Troy and Taresa Smith of Rockdale; a sister, Patricia and Clay Heflin of Belton; a brother, Gary and Dorothy Smith of Cameron; seven grandchildren, Amanda Ruiz, Megan Lane, Steven Conaway, Tristan Lewis, Nicole Smith, Keith Schneider and Tamra Mangum; 12 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Eli and Arron Ruiz, Hayden, Liam and Brennan Lane, Garrett and Logan Schneider, Rylan, Parker, Ava and Braden Mangum.

Pallbearers are Mark Conaway, Steven Conaway, Troy Smith, Tristan Lewis, Garrett Schneider and Keith Schneider.
