Swenson

Funeral service for Edward Swenson, 97, was held Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2020, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Officiating was Rev. Roy Dillard of Liberty Community Church in Milano.

Burial was at Liberty Cemetery near Milano.

Mr. Swenson died Friday, Aug. 14, at his home in Milano.

He was born Feb. 26, 1923, to Tom and Olive (Roberts) Swenson in Manor.

Mr. Swenson was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1943 to 1946.

He graduated from Sam Houston University in Huntsville.

On Jan. 28, 1949, he married Addie Belle Tisdale in Huntsville. They shared almost 60 years together until her death on Jan. 5, 2009.

Mr. Swenson was a teacher, coach and principal over the years, starting in Milano in 1953 until 1968. He went on to different schools before his retirement in 1980, when he moved back to Milano.

Mr. Swenson was a longtime member of Milano Community Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Olive Swenson; his wife, Addie “Tizy” Swenson; and his siblings.

Survivors are two sons, Jack Swenson and wife Ming-Ming of Temple, Dick Swenson and wife Carol of Crosby; and a daughter, Connie Ruiz and husband Jose of Beaumont; also, six grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
