Talley

Services for J T Talley, 88, of Rockdale were held Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with Rev. Matt Higginbotham officiating. Burial was at I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Mr. Talley died Saturday, March 23, in Rockdale.

He was born June 19, 1929, in the Waterloo community of Williamson County (near Taylor) to James Thomas and Ruth Martha (Sides) Talley.

He graduated from Rockdale High School and after graduating joined and served in the U. S. Navy.

He married Mary Ann Moore on May 28, 1955, in Houston.

Mr. Talley made Rock-dale his home for most of his life, except for a short stay in Houston.

He worked for Alcoa as a sheet metal and layout man and retired after 39 years.

Mr. Talley was a Steelworker union steward for many years, was elected to the Rockdale City Council in 1995 and served until 2010, and served on the Rockdale Credit Union Board.

He enjoyed farming and ranching and was a member of First Baptist Church in Rockdale.

Mr. Talley was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary Ann Talley; six sisters, Jimmie Hoes, Esta Anderson, Ouita Long, Artie B. Gee, Jean Alford and Wanda King; five brothers, Ray Talley, Leonard Talley, Earl Talley, Newburn Talley and Dale Talley; and his parents.

Survivors are three children, Mark Allen Talley, Rebecca Lynn Page and husband Elbert, all of Rock-dale, Dana Joe Talley and wife Connie of Hobbs, New Mexico; and three grandchildren, Lacy Jo Sanders and husband Joe of Celina, Allyson Rose Page of Rockdale, Tyler Joe Talley of Hobbs, New Mexico; also, numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Tyler Talley, Dean Hoes, Joe Sanders, Herbie Vaughan, Robert Timmerman and Robert Moore.

Honorary pallbearers were Lacy Sanders, Allyson Page, John E. Fischer, Tom Alford, Ernie Cates and Donna Nevitt.
