Valek

Barbara LaVerne Yarbrough Valek, 77, of Rockdale died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021, at her home in Rockdale.

A graveside service was held Monday, Aug. 16, at IOOF Cemetery in Rockdale.

Mrs. Valke was born on June 8, 1944, to Albert Lee and Rosalie (Wanoreck) Yarbrough in Milam County, just outside of Rockdale.

She graduated from Rockdale High School and went on to attend the University of Texas, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting, as well as her teaching certificate.

Mrs. Valek was also a Certified Public Accountant.

She taught accounting and business classes at Rockdale High School for a few years.

On Feb. 9, 1963, she married John Louis Valek. They spent 39 years together until his death on May 14, 2002.

Mrs. Valek enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading, genealogy and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Louis Valek; her parents, Albert Lee and Rosalie Yarbrough; and a brother, Delbert Ray Yarbrough.

Survivors are two daughters, Kathryne McKeever of Plano, Michelle Valek and husband John Foxworth of Austin; two grandchildren, Willow Foxworth and Iris Foxworth; and a brother, Kenneth Yarbrough; also, nieces and nephews.
