Wilma Marie Tuma Owens was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on May 5, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Wilma was born on May 7, 19 37, i n Milam County to James Martin Tuma and Nina Beatrice Edelmon Tuma. She lived her life in Rockdale.

She graduated from the University of Texas with honors and went on to serve as an elementary teacher, including work with migrant and ESL students.

Wilma was a faithful member of Murray Street Church of Christ. She lived a life marked by faith, service, compassion and devotion to her family.

Many knew her lovingly as “Gramm,” while others knew her as “Willye.”

She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, book club, trips to the beach and time with the family she loved so dearly.

Wilma was preceded in death by her son, James “Toots” Owens; her siblings, Joyce Key Skinner and Jimmy Dick Tuma; and other loved ones who went before her.

She is sur vived by her beloved husband of 71 years, Vaughn “Pud” Owens; her children, Tomm Owens and wife Debbie, Terry Owens, Dennis Owens and wife Leigh; her brother, Gary Don Tuma and wife Patti; her grandchildren, Mindee Menley Popham and husband David, Scott Owens and wife Lisa, Leanne Burrough and husband Cody, Michael Menley, Tate Owens and wife Mallory, Tally Bowman and husband Michael; her brotherin- law, Alfred “Punk” Owens; her sister-in-law, Madie Tuma; along with many great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild, extended family, former students and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 9, at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, followed by a short memorial service and meal at approximately 11:15 a.m. at the New Salem HD Clubhouse at the Fair Park. A meal will be provided, and all are welcome to stay, visit and share memories with the family.
