Foster to speak on leadership

On Thursday, May 18, Col. Chad Foster, garrison commander at Fort Cavazos in Killeen, will be coming to the Patterson Civic Center in Rockdale, to talk about leadership.

Alcoa retirees meeting to be held June 8

Rockdale Alcoa retirees next meeting will be held Thursday, June 8, at the Thorndale Veteran’s Memorial Hall. Doors open at 5 p.m. with a business meeting at 5:45 p.m. A fried fish dinner will be served for $15 each. The dessert group will be last names starting A-L.

Genealogical society set to meet May 23

The Milam County Genealogical Society will hold their May meeting at the VFW Hall Post 6525 on Tuesday, May 23 at 2 p.m. This move is due to renovations at the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library. Visitors are always welcome. For more information contact Jack Brooks at 512-955-1834.

The Rockdale city council distributed $34,580 in Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) funds to a few organizations who had petitioned to receive them. The Girls Softball Association will receive $18,150 for district and state tournaments.

Clouse will be laid to rest Wednesday Sgt. Joshua Clouse of the Cameron Police Department was killed in the line of duty after responding to a shooting at a residence in Cameron.

Local water utilities, including city, receive POSGCD grants

Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District (POSGCD) announced grants awarded to local Water Utilities in Burleson and Milam Counties at their May board meeting. The district awarded six grants totaling $1,040,211 as a part of its program to conserve groundwater.
