Rockdale’s sales tax distribution for August was down a bit from last year’s August number, but the year-to-date total is still outpacing last year.
The Municipal Development District’s numbers are higher both for the month and the year, according to figures released by the state’s comptroller.
The following 40 cases were presented to the grand jury and indicted as true bills with no “no bills” on Oct. 22:
• Wayne Albert Franklin, 69, of Rockdale, unauthorized use of motor vehicle.
• Brittany Nicole McAdoo, 28, of Rockdale, tampering with evidence.
A man in the southwestern section of the county died from COVID-19 on Friday, County Judge Steve Young said.
The man was in the hospital and was on a ventilator when he died.
One more person was admitted to a hospital over the past week.

The first week of early voting has concluded with 5,560 votes cast in Milam County. Of that total, 1,767 were cast in Rockdale while 1,862 people voted in Cameron.
Thorndale has had 873 early voters, while Buckholts has had 332 cast their votes.
COVID-19 may have knocked out the Rockdale Fair Association schedule, but not the spirit of the fair as the 45th annual event came to a bountiful end Saturday night with the livestock auction at Fair Park.
County Judge Steve Young said there are three new cases of COVID-19 and one discharged PCR case and one discharged probable case. No one was admitted to a hospital over the past week.

Texas Department of Transportation work on one US 79 project started Monday and another one will begin Nov. 2.
The project that began Monday will overlay existing pavement on US 79, from 2 miles west of FM 1786 to 2.4 miles west of FM 487.
