JUDGE ISSUING NEW MASK WEARING ORDER

  Milam County Judge Steve Young on Thursday issued a new mask-wearing order mandating persons over age 10 to wear masks while shopping and some other activities.  The order goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. Monday, June 29, and is related to a dramatic increase in COVID-19 infections.

 Milam County Judge Steve Young has reported five new cases of COVID-19 in the county, bringing the total to 78. The judge will address the county in a Facebook video at 1 p.m. Thursday in which he is expected to impose new measures. Site is Moving Milam Forward.

Fair Association bestows scholarships

The Rockdale Fair Association has distributed $10,750 to graduating seniors from four Milam County high schools. They are: • Garrett Bernstein, $2,000—Bernstein graduated from Thorndale High School.

Cameron’s Hollas gets 2020 Vogelpohl Scholarship

Cameron Yoe High School graduating senior Heath Hollas has received the $750 Bill Vogelpohl Scholarship, which is presented every year through the Rockdale Fair Association. Hollas graduated in May. He is the son of Gery and Theresa Hollas and plans to attend Baylor University.

Changes in annual crops tour

BUCKHOLTS—Milam County’s annual Row Crops Tour is going ahead on schedule July 2, but there are some significant changes due to the COVID-19 situation, according to County Agent Floyd Ingram.

City pleas for conservation in water use

It’s Texas. It’s summer. It’s hot. So it’s not surprising that city officials are asking local residents to conserve water. Right now that’s a voluntary request. It might change later unless what’s started out as an exceptionally dry summer suddenly changes course.

Reporter schedule

The Fourth of July is two weekends away. Since the holiday falls on a Saturday in 2020, The Reporter will be closed on Friday, July 3. Also, the office will close at noon Thursday. July 2. Normal hours resume Monday, July 6.

Most virus cases: It’s Cameron

Since the first positive COVID-19 test in Milam County back in March, the most asked question has been “where are they from?” The Milam County Health Department has provided the first breakdown of those statistics and the answer is, not surprisingly, “from where the most people are.

22 cases in week as count now 73

The COVID-19 spike reached new heights during the past week, with a record eight new cases reported Tuesday—an astounding 22 for the week—and the overall count soaring to 73.

Early voting starts Monday

Milam County Precinct 1 voters have some unfinished business from the March 3 Republican Primary to decide next month and an extended early voting period begins Monday at four locations.
