‘SUPERIOR’

—The Rockdale Junior High Symphonic Band recently traveled to Bastrop and participated in the Association of Texas Small School Bands Region 18/26 Concert and Sight Reading Evaluation, according to Marco Estrada, director.

Community book fair starts Monday

Students from Rockdale Junior-High School will host a Scholastic Book Fair beginning Monday and lasting through Friday, March 29. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, March 28, and 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, March 29.

Lent: Time for sacrifice, reflection

It’s that season again. There are fish specials at restaurants and extra services at Christian churches of many denominations. What exactly is Lent? In 2019, Lent started March 6 and will end April 18. That’s the Thursday before Easter Sunday.

RCS food pantry Rockdale Christian Services operates a food pantry at 224 West Cameron Avenue, open 10 a.m. until noon weekdays. Donations of non-perishable food items are welcome, especially one-pound bags of rice, pinto beans, macaroni and cheese, canned soups and peanut butter.

50s music Saturday at the Kay

QUICK LOOK “That’ll Be the Day” to get “All Shook Up” Saturday that is, when the Kay Theatre presents a 50s Rock and Roll revival with Steve “Anton” Raby and the Star Chiefs. Participants are asked to don their 50s finery—Brylcreem, poodle skirts and more—and dance the night away.
