10-year prison term eyed after violation

A 27-year-old Rockdale man is looking at a potential 10-year prison sentence after his public intoxication arrest last week. Prosecutor Bill Torrey told The Reporter he has filed a motion to revoke the involuntary manslaughter probation of Robie Lee Lawhon.

Seniors, disabled to get 10K exemption

They are aware it won’t have a lot of impact on paying new, much higher, water rates, but the Rockdale City Council has agreed to raise the homestead exemption for Rockdale residents 65-and-over, or disabled, from $5,000 to $10,000.

Hungry kids have ‘Pals’ in volunteers

A group of concerned citizens, teachers and business leaders wanted to address the issue of food insecurity among the student population in Milam County, so they started a program three years ago called Pack Pals.

Appraisal notices May 1st this year

CAMERON—Tax appraisal notices to Milam County residents will be mailed out one month later in 2019, May 1 rather than April 1, the earliest date allowed.

County okays pursuit of new sheriff’s video CAMERON—Milam County Commissioners, meeting Monday in regular session, gave Sheriff Chris White the go-ahead to move forward in planning stages for a new $180,000 video system for his department.

Meth in drink cup nets arrest in traffic stop

POLICE REPORT Methamphetamine in a soft drink cup containing soda netted drug charges after a traffic stop last week in Rock-dale. Lt. Stephen Goodrich said the vehicle was stopped on a license plate infraction.
