The first of several years of substantial water rate increases for City of Rockdale customers will be reflected on bills soon after the city council gave second, and final, reading approval to new fees Monday.
The filing pace for the May 4 city and school elections heated up considerably during the past week as Rockdale now has contested races for the city council and school board.
Deadline to file is 5 p.m. Friday.
It’s not Stonehenge but the accomplishments of Rockdale’s five state championship sports teams will last about as long in the memories of their fans. These five engraves stones have been engraved and placed at the Tiger Stadium walkway.
The Rockdale Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center has elected three new directors.
They are:
• Cassidy Paschall, representing The Rockdale Reporter.
• Bud Houston, representing Bud’s Electric.
• Suzie Turner, representing Oak Leaf Bakery & Diner.

event ahead Feb. 23rd
The 12th Annual Police/ Firefighter of the Year Banquet is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 23 at the KC Hall in Rockdale.
The event ticket will include a barbecue meal, catered by Chris Kelm, dance with Kenny Orts, silent auction, and live auction.
The third annual Graham Dickerson Memorial 42 Tourney will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church.
The church is located at 852 County Road 458.
POLICE REPORT
Police believe natural causes led to the death of a man at Budget Inn during the past week.
Lt. Stephen Goodrich told The Reporter police responded to a call at the motel in connection with the death.
