Religious tithing is a charitable option

People all over the world donate to charity. The National Center for Charitable Statistics found that individual giving in the United States amounted to $258.51 billion in 2014, an increase of 7.1 percent from the previous year.

Heavenly Treasures Rockdale Christian Services “Heavenly Treasures” thrift store, 233 North Main, serves the needy with gently used clothing and household items at prices from 25 cents to $5. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. A “$3 Bag Day” is held first Friday of each month.

Tiger ‘yard art,’ fund raiser continues here The “Tiger Yard Art” you’re seeing around town is a fund raiser for Alpha Tau Delta service sorority. “For $20 you can pick where the Tiger is caged and ensure you don’t receive it back,” Brooksy Fisher, sorority spokesperson, said.

—Jim Platt (standing) presented a program based on the early comedy of the legendary Andy Griffith Thursday at the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library. The program is part of a series of monthly, sometimes more often, programs at the library.

Blood drive set for Jan. 31st

MILANO NEWS Ablood drive for Gause resident and Milano High School graduate Dendy Brown is scheduled Jan. 31 at the Gause ISD gym. In September 2018, Dendy was critically injured in an auto accident and required multiple surgeries and transfusions as part of his medical treatment.

MLK MARCHERS

—Young and not quite as young, they came to downtown Rockdale Sunday to participate in the annual Martin Luther King Day Parade. Some marchers even shared photos along the way. The parade included vehicles, horses and those who walked the route on foot.

Actually it was a day early as about 60 persons, many in vehicles, a few on horseback and these on foot, participated in Rockdale’s annual Martin Luther King Day Parade Sunday.

Sandow still on pollution list

During the 60-plus years of power being generated by coal-fired plants at Sandow, the facilities were frequently cited on a list of polluters by environmental groups. Friday it happened again, a full year after Luminant ceased operations at the site.
