—That’s what the closure of the Texas 36 railroad overpass in Milano turned out to be after it was struck by an oversized load Friday. The Texas Department of Transportation closed the intersection that afternoon to make repairs to the bridge, initially saying it might be closed most of the week.

First water rate hike vote passes

The Rockdale City council unanimously passed the first of what are anticipated to be four water rate hikes, to cover an initial $10-million in expense, in a marathon council session/town hall Monday at the Patterson Center.

Fugitive captured in Cameron

SHERIFF’S REPORT A 35-year-old Louisiana man, identified as a suspect who fled on foot at the Cameron “long bridge” Monday evening, was captured Tuesday morning near Cameron First Baptist Church.

Our family members and friends helped granddaughter Addy celebrate her third birthday with a party Saturday afternoon at our home. She had a blast but, of course, she’s always the center of attention being the youngest one around and she is precious to us. So glad they live next door.

MLK Parade set downtown 4 p.m. Sunday
