No change in school ‘letter, number’

The official 2017-18 Texas Education Agency (TEA) “A-F” Accountability Ratings were released last week and for Rockdale ISD, there’s no change from the preliminary numbers reported in a Reporter story last Aug. 23. Rockdale ISD received a “C” and a number grade of 74.

Dear editor, Thanks to all the wonderful people who donated money and sponsored our children in foster care and kinship care for Christmas. Our children are all from Milam County and most have been traumatized by parental drug abuse and neglect.

—Thorndale High School student Scott Widner recently received one of 12 Blackland Income Growth (BIG) scholarships. He is the son of Scott and Cindy Widner and plans to attend Texas A&M or Tarleton State University this fall.

Solar farm eyed

Milam County Judge Steve Young says a group of entrepreneurs are working toward bringing a solar farm business to the Rockdale area. Young said he has been talking with the group since last fall and that they have identified three possible sites for the proposed project.
