Lions Club soup suppers ending this Thursday The Rockdale Noon Lions Club’s annual soup suppers, a delicious winter tradition, ends Thursday in the New Salem Clubhouse at Fair Park. Price is $8 per person and includes roll/cornbread, tea/ water and dessert. Hours are 5 to 7 p.m.

Prison sentence returned

CAMERON—A 28-year-old Buckholts man, described by the prosecutor’s office, as an “illegal alien” receive a 10-year prison sentence last week after pleading guilty to injury to a child.

First Friday ahead

Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors will host the free monthly First Friday get-together at the Lucy Hill Patterson Library on Feb 1. Hours are 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Monday chase ends in arrest

POLICE REPORT A vehicle chase in east Rockdale ended Monday evening with the arrest of a 54-year-old Houston man. Edward James Miller was apprehended on Douthit Street by Ofc. Cory Puente according to Lt. Stephen Goodrich of the Rockdale Police Department.

‘TANKS’ FOR VISITING ROCKDALE

—Downtown Rockdale had a couple of impressive visitor last Wednesday as a “wide load” convoy shepherded two massive oilfield tanks down US 79 (Cameron Avenue).

Juveniles nabbed in Cameron chase

SHERIFF’S REPORT Three juveniles were taken into custody while one remained at large after a pursuit in Cameron in the early morning hours of Sunday that involved several law enforcement agencies.
