Thanks to police for responding to puppies Dear editor, We would like to thank Rockdale Police Department Officers Corey Puente and Joah McCaleb for doing such a good job of taking care of the stray dogs that were left in a crate on our street.

Garden Club thanks Scouts for cleanup aid

Dear editor, On behalf of the Crown Garden Club, I would like to say “thank you” to the young ladies of Girl Scout Troops 9602 and 9605 and their leaders, Sheree Smith an Maria Santellano, for planting nine Drift Roses in our flower beds at the Old City Cemetery on Earth Day weekend.

EDITOR’S CORNER At the end of the great John Ford western “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance,” the newspaper editor says: “when legend becomes fact, print the legend.” That’s a great quote, but it assumes a knowledge of what’s legend and what’s fact.

Courthouse clock, chimes due repairs

JUDGE’S COMMENTS Our roof is leaking But not for long. Our iconic courthouse was built in 1890, almost 130 years ago, and needs a few repairs including a new roof. Thanks to our Milam County Historical Commission, repairs are about to begin.

10-20-40-100 YEARS AGO 100 YEARS AGO.... Judge W. C. Davis of Bryan was to be the featured speaker as the Milam County Prohibition Campaign formally opened at the Cameron Methodist Church. (Prohibition was to begin on Jan. 17, 1920).
