Food demonstrations set June 22nd

COMMENTS FROM MICAH Want to learn more about cooking? I will be giving cooking demonstrations at the Market Day at the Yards on June 22 at the Yards of Cameron. It starts at 10 a.m. I will be doing peppers and tomatoes as the theme for my cooking demos (it’s the featured produce for the event).

EDITOR’S CORNER Do you ever drive to Bryan-College Station? Bet you do, And, if you do, I’ll bet you use the Texas 6 loop around the twin cities at some point. Except Texas 6 has a name. It’s called the Earl Rudder Freeway. We drive on streets that are named all the time, of course.

Input on proposed move to Cameron hospital

JUDGE’S COMMENTS Talks have been ongoing for several months to trade 7 buildings in downtown Cameron for the former Central Texas Hospital building and convent. This issue has been discussed in great detail at three separate commissioner court hearings in the past 30 days or so.

100 YEARS AGO.... Texas voters were turning in a split decision at the ballot box on the two most controversial issues of the day. Texans voted in favor of Prohibition but, with some votes still to be counted, were turning down women’s suffrage.

Revivals require waking up from a faithless slumber

He told me to tell you that Iwas at a church gathering the other day and someone said, “Why don’t we have tent revivals anymore?” That’s like saying “Why don’t we have wall phones anymore?” (If you have a wall phone no offense). Revival is a “God-Thing” not a man scheduled thing.

Gee family pioneers from 19th Century

Dear editor, My name is Betty (Key) Alford. This is some information about who settled at and around Gee Mountain. (Reporter story last week). Alfred Lafayette (A.L) Gee was was my great grandfather. He was born in 1860 in Caldwell He is buried in the Black Jack Cemetery.

City was always going to have a ‘rockin’ name
