Starting a dialogue over abortion issue Dear editor, Two Saturday evenings ago, I attended the Place of Hope fundraising event headlined by Rockdale native, Abby Brannan Johnson. I was invited to attend by a friend, and I will begin this letter by telling readers what I told my friend.

In the presence of industry legends

TEXAS TYPE Ihad the chance to see some legends recently, but they weren’t Tiger Woods or Dirk Nowitzki. Our South Texas Press Association, the largest regional press association in the nation, met in La Grange for a weekend of education, entertainment and friendly competition.

First moot court helping to unify county

JUDGE’S COMMENTS Shortly after taking office I had an idea to have a first ever county wide “moot court” competition with all five schools competing. That’s a legal exercise with two-student teams making an oral argument made in open court about a hypothetical problem.

Looking back...

100 YEARS AGO.... At 6 p.m. on a Wednesday, Rockdale residents were advised U.S. Vice-President Thomas Marshall would visit town early the next morning to make a speech urging support for the new Liberty Loan bond drive.

Love helps redeem all who atone

He told me to tell you that Iloved watching Tiger Woods win the Masters this past Sunday. We loved it when he won on the course. We were in a twisted way glad when he failed off the course and now grace has had a comeback.

EDITORIAL The story is told of a traveler motoring through the “breadbasket” of America and approaching a tiny town in western Iowa. There wasn’t much to the town, just three or four blocks, but as he approached he could make out in the distance two large structures, one on each end of town.
