Photo aging? Nope, they need more apps

Have your gotten a post yet from some of your favorite millennials which shows a photo of them aged to look like they are “old?” The quotes are there because, as millennials will discover, “old” is a moving target. Right now many of them think 40 is ancient. It’s from a new app.

County unity driving development push

Whinstone, USA wants to lease four potrooms (the remaining two potlines) at Alcoa for GMO Registry to begin another cryptocurrency mining operation. Company representatives will be back next week to finalize the lease agreement with Alcoa and the new operation could be up and running within 60 days.

Looking back... Through The Reporter Files

100 YEARS AGO.... Rockdale residents voted in favor of a $75,000 bond issue to construct a new high school. Vote was 92-19. Classes for high school and intermediate students were being held in the City Hall and current primary school until the new school was completed.

A bit, mainly

Cryptocurrency “mining” is set to begin as soon as this weekend in the former Alcoa potrooms, almost exactly one year after Bitmain confirmed it was coming to Rockdale. In July, 2018, Bitmain corporate officials forecast they would bring 400 jobs to the area.

They really do bring people to our town

Along time ago I read what I thought was a profound quote about the difference between, shall we say, “book learning” and the real world. It went like this: “Someone who has a theory is no match for someone who has had an experience.” I realized the truth of that last week.

Goodbye Starbucks, it was fun while it lasted

In the past, I’ve written about my superiority complex whenever I buy a cup of coffee at Starbucks. Those white disposable coffee cups made from 100 percent recycled materials with their hot cup sleeve and traveler lid made me feel sophisticated, younger and smarter.

100 YEARS AGO.... Two of Rockdale’s most prominent citizens were either home from hospital stays or were headed that way. Reporter Publisher John Esten Cooke was to be released from the Cameron Sanitarium after a four-week stay for appendix surgery, Mayor H. C.

POSGCD ‘summit’ set in Caldwell

The date for the 2019 Milam and Burleson Counties Groundwater summit in the Caldwell Civic Center has been set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Aug. 14, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. “All are encouraged to attend,” Doug Box, POSGCD spokesman, said. The summit is free and open to the public with lunch provided.

Photography camp scheduled July 29th

MILAM 4-H NEWS Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Milam County 4-H will hold a free photography day camp for youth this summer. Photography Day Camp will be held July 29 at the Cameron Chamber Meeting Room. Ages 7-11 will meet from 8 to 11 a.m. and ages 12-18 will meet from 1-3 p.m.
