Are you sick of turkey yet? I know I am. Every year Mom and Dad always want a hamburger after all that turkey and that is also fine by me. Beef of any kind be it a steak or a burger or enchiladas. So, let’s bring on the beef this week starting with Peopso, an Italian black pepper and wine beef stew.

Rockdale’s own Betty Backhaus turned 92 on Friday. Her family hosted a birthday celebration on Saturday, Nov. 26, at the Peace Lutheran Church’s Fellowship Hall where Betty has been a member for over 70 years.

4-H new member orientation set for November 28th

A new member orientation for all 4-H’ers will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at the Extension Office. All 4-H members who would like to learn more about 4-H opportunities are invited to attend the orientation.

Thanksgiving football

Thanksgiving is as synonymous with football as it is with turkey. When sports fans tune into the big games Thanksgiving day, two teams are on the field every year: the Dallas Cowboys and the Detroit Lions.

To me this is a cold, muggy, miserable day. I’m sure it is a perfect day for some people. I may go out to the mailbox after I see the mail lady pass. I’ll keep saying “God is in control, not me.” Sitting here writing this, I keep hearing a noise in another room.

Catholic Ladies to hold Christmas Bazaar Dec. 3 St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Ladies Society will hold their annual Christmas Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3.

There is an old saying: 'The devil is in the details.' Meaning: The difficulty is in the many small details. Ask anyone who has ever tried to assemble a computer desk from IKEA; or a student who has written a term paper according to Turabian; or a novice chef trying to follow a detailed recipe.

One of the things I learned in school that was not true is: Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me. Whoever said that was crazy! I got called some names not too long ago and I gotta tell you it hurt.
