A total eclipse of the sun will happen in Rockdale on April 8 at around 1:37 p.m. in Rockdale and Cameron and will last approximately four minutes and 18 seconds.
In a unanimous decision on Monday, Jan. 8, the Board of Trustees of Rockdale ISD voted to extend the contract of Superintendent Dr. Denise Monzingo through the year 2027. The announcement follows a comprehensive evaluation of Dr. Monzingo’s leadership and accomplishments within the district.
Black History Series continues with author’s granddaughter
popular and well-received 42-year Black History Series did not die when revered author Susie Sansom-Piper died October 21, 2019.
Tamara Powell, Mrs. Piper’s granddaughter, has agreed to write a series for 2024.
Charlie Watson celebrated his 90th birthday on Sunday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with lots of friends and family. Guests were asked to bring food for the Rockdale Christian Services food pantry and they responded with over 115 pounds of food.
An appreciation dinner and a fundraiser for Rockdale’s first responders are coming up soon.
Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department will hold their annual All Fired Up fundraiser at 6 p.m. Saturday at The Ranch.
St. John’s United Methodist Church will hold their annual chili supper on Thursday, Feb. 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall.
Tickets are $13 and are available at the door and includes chili, cornbread, dessert of your choice and a drink and can be taken home or eaten there.
This little lady, Paulina Waak, is the only Girl Scout in Milam County since they disbanded here. You can find her all over town selling cookies. She is the daughter of Paul and Paula Waak.
Rockdale Elementary School’s west hallway is the first thing that will be updated after the school bond passed last year. There will be a new, secure office as well as new classrooms with updated windows and doors.
Spaghetti fundraiser February 8
The Rockdale Band Boosters will hold their annual spaghetti supper fundraiser on Tuesday, Feb. 8, in the junior high commons from 5 to 8:30 p.m.
Plates are $10 and include spaghetti, salad, bread and a drink. Desserts made by band students are available to purchase.
