• Tuesday, 9:06 a.m., the Thorndale Volunteer Fire Department responded to a one-vehicle wreck near FM 486 and FM 908. • Wednesday, 6:32 p.m. the Rockdale Fire Department responded to South US 77 and CR 313 for a vehicle that was smoking after the driver hit a deer. • Thursday, 2:22 p.m.

The good old days

We recently bought a new house and our 10-pound dust mop of a dog, Buster, is not adjusting well. Buster is a 13-year-old Shih Tzu who seems to suffer from anxiety. He is half-blind and nearly deaf and the transition to our new house is proving to be a hardship.

Dinner donation

Rockdale Rotary Club recently donated $200 to the group of businesses, churches and citizens responsible for the annual Rockdale Community Outreach Thanksgiving Dinner for the Nov. 21 meal at First Baptist Church in Rockdale.

Thorndale ‘after prom’ fish fundraiser Sunday The Thorndale “after prom” committee is hosting a fish fry dinner fundraiser at 11 a.m. Sunday at the VFW. The money raised will go toward an after prom party for Thorndale High School students.

Changes made to Christmas parade

Milano city council has made a couple of changes to the annual Christmas parade, but it is still set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12. This year’s event won’t have any theme or divisions, or plaques given out.

4-H banquet set for Dec. 13

The Milam County 4-H Awards Banquet is held each year to honor those 4-H members who have excelled in their specific field(s) of interest throughout the year. These young men and women work hard to achieve various levels of accomplishment at the county, district, state, and national levels.

September sales tax rebates for Milam, area cities are up

Rockdale’s sales tax distribution for September, as well as the surrounding towns and the county, as a whole were up for the month. Rockdale figures were up by almost 12% from where they were in September of 2019.

More Thanksgiving goodies

My friend, Kimberley Jones, gave me this recipe for Alton Brown’s garlic mashed potatoes and she says they are fantastic. Kimberley was a grade ahead of me in school. In high school she dated Kevin Selden, and guess what? She is about to become Kimberly Jones Selden! How cool is that?
