Reporter is on the ‘Money’ with choice of new editor

Many people in Rockdale may have already met David Money, the newest addition to The Rockdale Reporter staff, but for those who have not, Money is being groomed by Mike Brown to take over editing duties.

Trustees approve $1.3363 tax rate

Rockdale Independent School District trustees voted to accept a tax rate of 1.3363 per $100 evaluation Monday night at a meeting on the high school campus. While the rate for this school year is higher than last year’s $1.

Assistant DA took roundabout way to courtroom

Arturo Villarreal Jr.’s career path did not lead him straight to where he is today. There were a few twists and turns along the way to his position as one of the assistant district attorneys for Milam County.

JCLDS annual food drive begins Sept. 23 The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will conduct their annual food bank drive starting on Sept. 23. They will be hanging bags on doorknobs that day and will pick up the filled bags on Sept. 26. Also on Sept.

Lots of changes in 2020 Fair baked goods

As might be expected in COVID-19-plagued 2020, there are a number of changes in the Rockdale Fair Baked Goods Show, according to County Agenty Micah Holcombe. Entry deadline is Monday (Sept. 28). Divisions include: Junior youth, third grade, ages 8 or 9–13 years; senior youth, ages 14—18.

No COVID cases for Thorndale ISD so far THORNDALE—Thorndale ISD School Nurse Sara Sanders told school trustees “things are going well” in the district regarding COVID-19 so far. Sanders addressed the board during a Sept. 14 regular session.

More dates listed in advance of Fair

The Rockdale Fair Association has listed more dates to be aware of in advance of the 2020 Fair: • Oct. 3—Commercial Heifer palpation and body condition scoring, 8 to 10 a.m., Milam County Auction Barn Cameron. • Oct. 1—Deadline to enter ag mechanice competition. Ag Mechanics Show is Oct. 14-15.

Pedestrian injured in accident on US 79

A 67-year-old pedestrian was injured Wednesday night after being hit by a pickup in the 1300 block of West Cameron, according to the Rockdale Police Department. The pedestrian was identified as Bartolome Rodriguez of Rockdale.

FIRE CALLS

Area volunteer firefighters responded to seven calls over the past week with Rockdale only getting one of those calls. The Rockdale volunteers responded to pickup-pedestrian accident on West Cameron Avenue last Wednesday night. The Milano volunteers went out on four calls last week.

FOOD BANK VISIT

Reporter/Mike Brown The Central Texas Food Bank made its Services, said the distribution served 887 individuals in final visit of the month to the Knights of Columbus Hall parking 337 families. Rockdale distributions are the first and third lot on Thursday.
