THORNDALE—St. Paul Lutheran School in Thorndale hosted their annual invitational basketball tournament on Jan. 19-20. The Lions boys’ varsity team k icked off t he tournament by going 2-0 on the first day, including a win against Immanuel Lutheran Giddings.

The Tigers boys’ soccer team started district play last week against the Caldwell Hornets. The game was played on the road and they won 8-0. Key players were Wilmer Sorto who scored three goals, Daniel Castillo, Eduardo Rivera, Jose Orellana, Diego Garza and Angel Rivera had one goal each.

It was a rough week for Tiger Nation on the hard courts. The Blue and Gold boys’ team lost both of their district games. On Wednesday, after a delay because of winter weather, the Yoemen of Cameron came to Tiger Gym.

On Wednesday the one-win Milano Eagles lost against the undefeated Thorndale Bulldogs at home. The final score was 54-22. Earlier in the week, the Eagles took on the Granger Lions in Granger and lost 45-23. COMING UP— Next up for the Eagles was to be the Bartlett Bulldogs at home Tuesday.

Friday night was soccer weather—it was about 42 degrees when the game started but the Rockdale Tigers were rested and ready. The frigid temperatures did not look to have any impact on them as they got a big win on their home field against Academy. The final was Rockdale 5, Academy 1.

HOUSTON—In mid January, Team CTX 5.0, under Coach Fleming of Cameron, competed in the indoor Carl Lewis Invitational Track Meet at the University of Houston. The boys 4x200 team placed first with a time of 1:29:54, ranking them 11th in the nation.

ALL BRAZOS VALLEY— Congratulations to junior Tiger football player Sawyer Chalk who was recently selected to The Bryan Eagles’ All Brazos Valley Football Team. Chalk was a second team outside linebacker selection. He is a “do everything” talent and helped Rockdale return to the playoffs.

Rockdale’s powerlifting team competed in the Cameron Yoe Invitational in Cameron on Saturday. “This was a large event with several 5A schools competing and our kids did extremely well,” according to Coach Morgan Laughlin.

TOURNEY CHAMPS—The Rockdale seventh-grade Lady Tigers won their own tournament last week, marking the second time this season that they have been tournament champions. Earlier this month they won the Holland Tournament.
