Parenting advice

Someone asked me the other day for some parenting wisdom. Ha! I barely know where babies come from. I’m glad that all of our kids are grown up and are responsible for making their own bad decisions. But let me tell you a quick story.

Gospel of Life to hold revivals The Gospel of Life Church will hold monthly revivals with hosts Senior Pastor Santos and Dr. Maria Gonzales. The revival speaker will be evangelist Sonia Bass. The first revivals will be held on Feb. 11-12 and March 18-19 starting at 7 p.m. on Saturdays and 10 a.m.

Rotary Casino Night a big hit

The Rockdale Rotary Club hosted their annual Casino Night at the Ranch. All kinds of games of chance were enjoyed by the crowd. Sponsors of the evening were Absolute Flooring Solutions, Botts Title Co.

Looking back...

100 YEARS AGO… February Trades Day in Rockdale would fall on Monday, Feb. 12, that being the second Monday. The second Monday was adopted as regular Trades Day each month by the Chamber of Commerce.

The Busy Bunch Quilters from Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale recently donated 25 quilts to NALC Disaster Response. Members of the quilt group are (L-R) Carolyn Taylor, Betty Backhaus, Sherry Stork, Birdie Kristoff, Mike and Pat Dittrich with NALC.

St. Paul BBQ fundraiser February 5th

St . Pau l Lut he r an Church and School in Thorndale will hold its annual barbecue brisket dinner and live auction fundraiser on Sunday, Feb. 5, at the Thorndale Fireman’s Hall on FM 486 North. The meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with dine-in plates to be purchased at the door for $15.

Rockdale artist, Tommy Nienaber, will have an art show with his works featured at Link & Pin, 2235 E. Sixth St. No. 102 in Austin, from Feb. 16 through March 31. Nienaber started his artistic journey while recovering from a tragic fire caused by a natural gas explosion which caused severe burns.
