At GO Car Wash’s grand opening last Thursday, Site Integration Leader Kalcen Medina and General Manager Kevin Starr, took time out from the festivities to make a generous $2,000 donation to Vision Rockdale for the restoration of The 1895.

There is a story making the rounds concerning Robert Hightower of Queens, New York who realized a lifelong dream in April, 1953. He went to the Masters Tournament in Augusta. His hero, Ben Hogan, played for the championship and won with a 14 under par, 274 score.

New Years is probably one of my favorite holidays or times of the year. The reason I have this bromance with the New Year is well, who doesn’t like “new.” New year, new car, new job, new surfboard, new pair of running shoes. New is always good, right?! How about a new attitude?

LOCK-IN

Murray Street Church of Christ held their annual lock-in on New Year’s Eve for the youth members of their church. This year they had 20 kids participating. They enjoyed lots of good food, bible lessons, games all night long and sparklers at midnight.

Tasty low-calorie recipes

Whether you’re going on a New Year’s diet or not, here are some recipes we can all enjoy. The first one up is from Ina Garten. She uses a lot of horseradish in her cocktail sauce but that can be adjusted to taste. I don’t think it needs hot sauce but suit yourselves.

The East Bell Tap House is shooting for a mid to late January opening. Co-owner Corey Vorn Kahl said he had two more televisions to install which will make the venue a great place for watching the Super Bowl. They are also hiring. Apply at eastbelltap/job-board.

Happy New Year! It is time to start setting those resolutions! I hope everyone had a wonderful and blessed Christmas. My house was busy, chaotic, loud, and overflowing with love. I hope everyone survived the cold snap without much damage.

Black-eyed peas for good luck

I’m giving you a fairly standard black-eyed pea recipe so you’ll have good luck in 2023. The most important part, in my opinion, is to use some sort of smoked meat: ham hocks, sausage, turkey necks, ham, slab bacon, etc. It just needs to be smoked.
