St. Monica Ladies BBQ fundraiser April 24 The St. Monica’s Ladies will have a drive-through barbecue fundraiser on April 24 starting at 10 a.m. at Simon George Hall. Plates are $12 and will have both barbecue chicken and Green’s sausage. There will also be a sweet shop.

On Saturday, April 2, Gertharine Green turned 104 years young. Affectionately known as “Big Mama” to all, she was feted with a party and drive by parade at 1 p.m. in front of her home on Third Street.

Historical Commission set to meet Monday The Milam County Historical Commission will conduct its meeting on Monday, April 4 at 10 a.m. at the historic Kay Theatre in Rockdale. The purpose of this Commission is to preserve, protect and promote history within the county.

Spring recipes using lemon

The farmers market is starting on April 2 and I’m excited to go see all the spring produce. Mom made regular spaghetti recently and it was very good. Here is a more spring-like version that is also vegetarian if you’re into that kind of thing. Basil and lemon go very well together.

National Nutrition Month

In March, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics focuses attention on healthful eating through National Nutrition Month. This year’s theme, Celebrate a World of Flavors, embraces global cultures, cuisines and inclusivity, plus highlights the expertise of registered dietitian nutritionists.

RVFD DONATION—Kathryne and Ward Roddam of Real Estate by Kathryne made a generous donation of $10,000 to the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department. Kathryne Roddam was a schoolteacher for 27 years before becoming a Realtor for Keller Williams Realty.
