Council okays eastside investment zone

Rockdale City Council on Monday passed a Tax Increment Redevelopment Zone (TIRZ) for the downtown and eastern highway corridors in hopes of encouraging cleanup and new investment.

48th Rockdale Fair will feature rodeo, music stars

It’s almost Fair time! The 48th annual Rockdale Fair & Rodeo will be held Oct. 14-21, featuring professional rodeo and top country music acts to dance the nights away at Rockdale Fair Park. Tickets are $30 for a 3-day adult pass, $20 for children and seniors.

Senior Expo Oct. 18 at VFW

Milam County Senior Expo will be held at VFW Post 6525 on Wednesday, October 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is free and sponsored by Area Agency on Aging and Hill Country Community Action. Attendees will visit the vendor booths and register for drawings from each one.

2023 Rockdale Fair Children’s Pageant Contestants

The Rockdale Fair Association kicks off its 2023 Fair & Rodeo on Saturday, Oct. 14, with one of its first events, the Children’s Pageant. One hundred and ten girls and boys will compete in six divisions.

Ribbon cutting

Angel Pet Care has joined the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, and a ribbon cutting was held in their honor on October 3. Owner, Victoria Everett St John said she sit dogs, cats, horses, goats, sheep, hamsters, chickens and pretty much any animal that needs to be looked after.

The Thorndale City Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Thorndale City Hall, 105 N. Main. The council may accept the resignation of Municipal Judge Gary Northcott. Discussion and possible action to appoint an interim or hire his successor is also on the agenda.

Police make four arrests over past week of service

Rockdale Police Department made four arrests over the past week. One was for a warrant for theft of property between $100 and $750, one for unlawful carry of a weapon, one for marijuana possession, and one for driving while intoxicated, second count.

Responded to: • US 77-US 79 intersection for traffic control at 6:48 a.m. Wednesday. • Responded to Rockdale Junior High for a fire alarm at 11:25 a.m. Wednesday. • 206 Douthit for a medical call at 1:51 p.m. Wednesday. • US 77 and FM 487 for an 18-wheeler trailer that had lost its load at 4:24 p.m.
