Rockdale Elementary Kindergarten classes planted an oak tree at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Rockdale on Friday, April 28, in honor of Earth Day. Students and teachers spent the day planting the tree, picking up litter and enjoying the beautiful park.

Rockdale man dead after shooting

A Rockdale man is dead after being shot on Thursday night. The Rockdale Police Department responded to an apartment complex on US 79 next to the Piano Bar at about 10:15 p.m. Jeffrey McKinney, 30, Rockdale, suffered a gunshot wound to his upper torso.

Savanna’s Dog Grooming held a ribbon cutting on Thursday at Rockdale Chamber of Commerce. Owner Savanna Everett offers in-home dog grooming visits within a 50 mile radius for nail trims, teeth cleaning, expressing anal glands, ear cleaning and baths, of course, as well as lots of other services.

Jubilee Days BBQ cookoff schedule

The categories and turn-in times for the barbecue cookoff at Jubilee Days on May 5-6 have been released by the Rockdale Fair Association. On Friday, May 5, turn-in times for salsa will be 5:55 to 6:05 p.m. and margarita entries will be 6:55 to 7:05 p.m. Seafood turn-in time is 7:55 to 8:05 p.m.
