Accounts vary on Valentine’s Day origins

Valentine’s Day is a bright light in the middle of the winter. Come Feb. 14, sweethearts celebrate their love and affection for one another on this day devoted to happy couples. The origin of Valentine’s Day has generated much speculation over the years.

Brush drop off at 290 Beverly

Starting this evening, the brush pile at 290 Beverly, near the sewer plant and animal shelter, will beginning burning. It will probably burn all week as there is a lot of limbs and debris. Please do not dump brush off today after 2pm without a city worker present at site.

On Jan. 9, Trail Life troop TX-1516 met at Meadowbrook Baptist Church for their Court of Honor where the boys receive awards and recognitions for all of their hard work so far.

First Friday Coffee to be held at library

The Milam County Genealogical Society will host the February First Friday Coffee this Friday, Feb. 3. Enjoy snacks and visit with the attendees from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library.

Rotary Casino Night set for Saturday

The Rockdale Rotary Club will host their annual ninth annual Casino Night fundraiser on Saturday at The Ranch, starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are still available from Rotary Club members and are $50 each. Each ticket gets attendees two drink tickets, $5,000 in chips and an entry into a cash drawing.
