Cold and rain is forecast for this time of the year. We still have a couple of Christmas trees (that are decorated) sitting around— one inside, one outside. But I do not have that on my “to do” list for today. I’ve been calling different people for news this morning and I am not having much luck.

ORGANIZATIONS

Town & County Club January meeting The Thorndale Town & Country Club met at the Pleasant Retreat home of Peggy Weise on Thurs., January 12. Following the club prayer, the members enjoyed playing Crazy Bingo with prizes for all winners.

RISD will be closed Wednesday

Rockdale ISD will be cloed on Wednesday, February 1, due to inclement weather. A decosion regarding Thursday will be made before 7 p.m. Wednesday.

CITY HALL CLOSED

The City offices will close today January 31st at 4:00PM and remain closed through Wednesday February 1st. At this time offices will reopen on Thursday February 2nd at normal business hours. 

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards program seeking local student applicants

South Milam County high school students and home-schooled students in Thorndale, Milano and Rockdale interested in developing their leadership skills, and having a great time doing so, are invited to fill out an application for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program.

RISD chooses May bond vote

At last Wednesday’s school board meeting, the board met in closed session to choose one of two options for expansion needed to meet growth and security measures mandated by the state. The board chose Option 1 which is a $30 million bond which will be on the ballot in May of this year.

St. Paul BBQ fundraiser February 5th

St . Pau l Lut he r an Church and School in Thorndale will hold its annual barbecue brisket dinner and live auction fundraiser on Sunday, Feb. 5, at the Thorndale Fireman’s Hall on FM 486 North. The meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with dine-in plates to be purchased at the door for $15.

Powell to again pen Black History Month series for

popular and well-received 43-year Black History Series did not die when revered author Susie Sansom-Piper died in October 2019. T a m a r a Powell, Piper’s granddaughter, has again agreed to write a series for 2023.

RHS seniors earn academic honors

Rockdale High School students have earned academic honors from the College Board National Recognition Programs.
