Gun range passes first hurdle

In other city council news, the proposed gun range by Tony Ellis passed the first reading of the city ordinance 4 to 1 at Monday’s meeting. One council member was absent. Passions were high both for and against this project and several people spoke for each side of the argument.

Alcoa retirees meeting set for September 8th

Rockdale Alcoa Retirees will hold a meeting on Thursday, Sept. 8, at the Thorndale Veteran’s Memorial Hall (formerly known as the VFW Hall). Doors open at 5 p.m. and the business meeting begins at 5:45 p.m. Meals will be $15. The meal will be pork steak provided by Lee’s Landing.

MCT to hold auditions August 21-22

OPENING SOON

OPENING SOON—The East Bell Taphouse, located in the former Buck Henry’s Garage building, is set to open soon according to a new sign on the side of the building. The taphouse plans to have craft beer from local breweries, wine, food and live music. They will be posting job positions soon.

Back to school classes start August 17th

Rockdale, Thorndale and Milano will all start on the same day this year. The first day of classes will b e Wednesday, A ug. 17, for all students.

Former long-time Reporter editor Mike Brown let everyone know last week that he has been diagnosed with leukemia. He is in the hospital in Temple doing some testing so the doctors will have a plan forward—with Sue by his side, of course.
