Due to scheduling conflicts, the hospital district’s meeting has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Monday in the hospital board room to adopt the proposed tax rate.

Mark calendars for big train show in October

This fall will be the annual New Braunfels Train Show at 375 S. Castell Avenue in New Braunfels. The fall show will take up the entire New Braunfels Civic Center. The show plans to have a large exhibit of Lego trains, as well as model railroads, of various scales.

Historical grant applications available

Due to a donation from the Hotel Occupancy Tax funds by the city of Rockdale to the Milam County Historical Commission’s Preservation Grant Fund, a Rockdale Preservation Grant is now available for historic preservation.

The Friends of the Temple Public Library will hold it annual Labor Day Used Book Sale Sept. 1-4. The hours are Sept. 1-2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sept. 3-4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Thorndale sets hearing date on budget for Sept. 8

The Thorndale City Council set Sept. 8 as the date for a public hearing on the budget and tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year. At the council meeting Aug. 11, members approved a proposal setting the tax rate at .7181 per $100 of evaluation.

County goes after NTIA grant

Milam County in partnership with internet provider Zochnet in Giddings has filed a grant application with the National Telecommunications and Information Agency. The government and private application hopes to get funding to bring broadband internet service to the county.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has added two men to the state’s Most Wanted lists. Joshua Dee Daniels is now on the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list with a cash reward of up to $7,500 for information leading to his arrest.
