City repairing water main break

City crews are repairing a water main break at Burleson and West Cameron. The intersection is closed to through traffic. Water customers in the downtown area may have low to no water pressure Aug. 16 until repairs are completed.

More new COVID-19 cases reported

Milam County has 38 new confirmed cases to report: 13 new PCR cases and 25 new probable cases. Six PCR cases were discharged and 18 probable cases were discharged for a net increase of 14 new confirmed cases.

Milam County to apply for EDA grant

Milam County is hoping to one day have a regional technical job-center. County Judge Steve Young told commissioners about an Economic Development Administration grant program called Build Back Better Regional Challenge. Young said the program is divided into two areas.

Work continues on preserving old City Hall

Work is rolling along down at the 0ld City Hall, as the effort continues to restore historical accuracy to the building that was once a grand symbol of Rockdale. Much of what was done to the building since its “upgrade” in 1939 by the Works Progress Administration has to be undone and redone.

City says its working with state agencies to get downtown work completed

City Manager Barbara Holly told Rockdale City Council members at Monday’s night’s council meeting in City Hall that the city is working as fast as two state agencies will let it in regards to getting water pipes laid in downtown.

Woman’s love of yard work earns an honor

Rockdale resident Gladys Roberts has always loved working outdoors. She loves to get out in her front yard to tend the flower bed full of moonflowers with their large white flowers when blooming. “I come out here early in the morning and in the evening for sure,” she said.
