Texas Senate back in session while House is still missing quorum

Aug. 3, just one day after the first session ended, the second called session of the 87th Legislature began. Opponents to a controversial elections bill were able to halt consideration of all issues before the Legislature in July by leaving the Capitol and denying the House a quorum.

Retirement celebration for Dr. D.L. Brooks Sr. New Jerusalem Inter-Denominational Church will hold a celebration for retiring pastor Dr. D. L. Brooks Sr. on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 9-10, at the church. Dr. Brooks has served the church for 41 years.

SUNFLOWER FUN RUN/WALK— The Melodie Hope Jones Memorial Scholarship “Sunflower Fun Run/Walk” will be held Sept. 25 at Davidson Creek Park in Caldwell. There is a kids’ one-mile color run at 9 a.m. and the 5K starts at 9:30 a.m. Cost is $30 for the 5K and $25 for the kids run.

Our family joined other relatives for the annual Holdiness Family Reunion held at Milano Methodist Church for worship services and then to the Community Center for lunch and a time of catching up. We had a great time seeing family members we only see once a year.

Wake Aquatics award ceremony On Saturday, Rockdale’s competitive swimming team Wake Aquatics is holding an award ceremony at the City Pool for all it’s participants during the 2021 season. The team, in their inaugural season, had 18 kids qualify for the Summer Games of Texas last month.
