Heavenly Treasures is now open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays 9 a.m.-noon. This month special is $5 bags on the July 20.

City repairing sewer line

The intersection at Cherry Lane and Cameron Ave. will be closed to through traffic July 12 until approximately 6 p.m. for sewer line repairs.

WLM supporters fail to hold planned Lexington rally

A group called White Lives Matter distributed fliers about a rally it was planning for Saturday at noon on the downtown square in Lexington. Law enforcement officers gathered en masse to keep the peace should a disturbance break out, but all was quiet on the square from noon until 1 p.m.

Woman dies in accident outside Gause

A Taylor woman died early Tuesday morning in a traffic accident southwest of Gause after being struck by a semitruck on the shoulder of US 79.

Groundwater summit Aug. 9

The Milam and Burleson Counties Groundwater Summit will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 12. The summit is free and open to the public with lunch provided. Topics will cover a variety of issues. Speakers will discuss the status of water in Texas.

Celebrating independence

Fire chief has devoted career to fighting fires, enforcing laws

Herbie Vaughan’s career in firefighting and law enforcement began like so many others’ careers—he needed a job. He was fairly fresh out of Aldine High School in Houston and wanted to go to work. His first choice was law enforcement. “I wanted to become a police officer,” he said.

Public hearing on water quality July 12 at City Hall

Rockdale will hold a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. July 12 for residents to address the annual 2020 drinking water quality report that was mailed out to water utility customers in June prior to the EPA mandated deadline of July 1.
