From County Judge Steve Young early Friday morning: We have 5 new cases to report this morning from yesterday.  That brings us to 97 confirmed cases in the county; 18 active cases in the county; 68 individuals being monitored by the Health Department; 1 hospitalized and 1 fatality.

Yes, the Fourth of July fireworks scheduled for downtown Cameron are still on. But they will be “drivein,” those coming to the area to view fireworks are asked to stay in their vehicles and there are a number of guidelines.

Rockdale police have closed their investigation into an allegation of “excessive force” against an officer with Police Chief Jerry Meadors terming the charge “completely unfounded.” Brittany Lopez had alleged she was thrown to the sidewalk after a traffic stop.

Rockdale teen dies in Thorndale crash

THORNDALE — A Rockdale teenager was killed Saturday morning in a one-vehicle accident on US 79 just inside the eastern Thorndale city limits. Brandon Lopez, 16, was pronounced dead following the 9:04 a.m. crash on US 79 by Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Gary Northcott.

Early voting continues this week at four locations in Milam County for the July 14 Republican and Democratic Primary runoffs. It’s a much longer period that usual due to the COVID-19 situation, lasting until July 10. Through the first two days, 779 votes were cast countywide in both parties.

41 draw true bills

Forty-one individuals were indicted on 50 counts June 18 by a Milam County Grand Jury. Last week The Reporter ran a story on the indictment of 70-year-old Frances Arline Valdez for murder in connection with the 2019 death of her daughter, 25-year-old Valerie Valdez.
