Second Milam COVID-19 death

Milam County has recorded its second death attributed to COVID-19. County Judge Steve Young said an elderly county resident died Friday in a Temple hospital. “His death was from pneumonia which was attributed to the COVID-19 virus,” Young said. Young said the virus is affecting all ages.

Hubnik elected commissioner in runoff vote

Henry “Hub” Hubnik was elected Precinct 1 Milam County Commissioner Tuesday as the county completed voting in the long-delayed Republican and Democratic Primary Elections. Hubnik polled 479 votes to 336 for incumbent Richard “Opey” Watkins in the Milam GOP runoff.

Council gets offer on Old City Hall

The City of Rockdale has received an offer to purchase the 125-year-old former City Hall. Meeting “electronically” Monday in regular session, the council decided to call for a Request For Proposals to sell or lease the iconic building, vacant since last year.
