• 3:30 p.m. Thursday, air conditioning smoking, apartment in 1,000 block of West Cameron Ave. (US 79). • 3:31 p.m. Thursday, Rockdale VFD dispatched to Calhoun Blvd. for report of possible fire started by lighting and discovered a burning pit fire. • 3:40 p.m.

Fundraiser winners announced

We have a little bit of news this week, as the local Texas Blaze RTX held its gun fundraiser and has announced its winners. The 10 winners were as follows: David Goeltz, Tiffani Scott, Cathy Rinaldi, Ken White, Phil Concan, Cody Loehr, Traci Ricketson, Eric White, Armando Martinez and Jess Miller.

FREE SENIOR MEALS

Volunteer Greg Barber picks up frozen meals for delivery to senior citizens from Carolyn Cooper, director of the Rockdale Senior Citizens Center. More will be available next week, probably Wednesday and Thursday, April 22-23, Cooper said.

MASTER LEADERS

Two Milam County soldiers have completed a Master Leader Course (Master Sergeant E-8 training course) at Fort Hood. Frank Konarik (L) is formerly of Rockdale and Richard Strelsky is formerly of Milano.

Fire Pup Frolics

To bring some cheer to homebound kids—that’s all of them—in Rockdale the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department escorted Fire Pup (Edward Biehle) through the streets Saturday afternoon. Before the visit could reach all of the town it was cut short by an actual fire call.

FAMILIAR SIGHT

Trees were the main victims of a brief but violent thunderstorm which blew through Rockdale about 4 p.m. Thursday. This one was the 2000 block of Sager but trees and limbs were felled all over the city. Part of South Wilcox (FM 498) was closed Monday while city crews removed debris.
