Due to COVID-19, the Austin Area Food Bank that comes to Gause Community Center on the second Tuesday of the month has been canceled until further notice. They will let me know when they will be returning and I will get the word out.

First winners listed in MDD ‘eat-in’ contest

Leslie Davidson and Kelsey Briner are the first two winners in the Rockdale Municipal Development District’s Chow Down Challenge. The Challenge is designed to assist Rockdale restaurants as they attempt to minimize the impact of closing “eat-in” dining during COVID-19.

No new cases in a week

Week two of COVID-19 and the biggest news is a negative that sounds positive, at least for the time being. There have been no new cases of the deadly, incurable virus reported in the county since March 23. The total remains at two.

Campsey promoted to head coach/AD

Rockdale’s new head football coach/athletic director isn’t new. At least, not to Rockdale. Jacob Campsey, 32, was promoted to that position Thursday afternoon by Rockdale ISD trustees on the most unique head coach selection school board meeting in school history.

Food giveaway Thursday

Just about every public event in the area has been canceled or postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic but one that hasn’t is the Central Texas Food Bank’s first Thursday surplus food distribution in the KC Hall parking lot. Time is 9 to 11 a.m. It won’t look like the previous ones, however.

Martial law? Nope

The Reporter has received, and observed, communications alluding to the current Shelter-In-Place situation in Rockdale and Milam County as “martial law.” That represents a misunderstanding of what martial law actually is.

Elections postponed until, well, sometime

Rockdale, and the Rockdale-area, were to have gone to the polls Saturday, May 2, to decide a lot of issues, including electing new city council and school board members. They will still go to the polls, but exactly when is dependent on when, and how, the COVID-19 situation plays out.
