Milam 4-H Awards Program set for September 7th

Milam County 4-H is proud to announce its annual Awards Program, a celebration of the outstanding accomplishments of local 4-H members throughout the past year. The event will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, at the Yoe High Performing Arts Center, located at 1000 N. Fannin Ave. in Cameron.

Fair home ec schedule released

The Rockdale Fair is set to bring the community together once again this fall, offering opportunities for all ages to showcase their talents. From Kindergarten through adulthood, everyone is welcome to participate in the Home Economics Division, a long-standing favorite at the fair.

Monday—Closed for Labor Day. Tuesday—Deli sandwich, potato salad, baked beans, oranges, 2% milk. Wednesday—Barbecue baked potatoes, corn, sweet peas, cake, 2% milk. Thursday—Roast beef, mashed sweet potatoes, green beans, banana pudding, 2% milk.

REUNIONS

The Rockdale High School Class of 1970 will hold its 55th class reunion Sept. 19 and 20. Classmates should receive in the mail soon a detailed letter covering the two-day event with return information needed.

ORGANIZATIONS

The American Legion Post 358 meets the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Legion Hall. New members are welcome. For more information call Rod at 512-429-3458. Milam County Ham Radio Club meeting Milam County Ham Radio Club meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

CamRock Clinic celebrated its fifth anniversary on Friday afternoon with hot dogs with all the trimmings and lemonade for the public. HealthPoint Clinic is closing later this month, so CamRock Clinic is Rockdale’s only choice for healthcare.

Second annual Taste of Milam Sept. 20th

The second annual Taste of Milam fundraiser for CASA of Milam County will be held at Kiesling Ranch, 2732 CR 430 in Thorndale on Saturday, September 20 from 6 to 10 p.m.

RECOGNITION

When State Representative Stan Gerdes heard about how successful this year’s Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library’s Summer Reading Program was, he decided to give recognition for a job well done by the library staff by issuing a Certificate of Recognition to Library Director Lisa Riggs.

DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD

The Texas Historical Commission awarded the Milam County Historical Commission the Distinguished Service Award which recognizes exemplary initiation and execution of comprehensive programs that preserve Texas’ multitude of historic and cultural resources.

Board actions at Monday meeting

Rockdale ISD board of directors held its regular meeting on Monday night and addressed key updates for the 2025-2026 school year. HR Director Christy Betchan and Maintenance Team member Kenny Svrcek were honored at this year’s first recipients of the district’s R.O.A. R. award.
